Right now, there is one team in the NHL that is behind all the others. They are the only team that I would consider out of playoff contention. Even though they could still make a comeback and finish in the top eight, they won’t.

Needless to say, we are going to start playing the blame game for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Most people think that there are many factors to a losing season. I would agree. Carolina is posting terrible numbers offensively, defensively, on the penalty kill and on the power play. It would appear that since everything is below average, that that would be the problem.

That I don’t agree with. The question is, why is everything below average?

I don’t think you can blame Paul Maurice. He never manages teams this poorly. There has to be something else that’s making it difficult for the Canes to win. In my opinion, that “something” is the front office.

I’m putting the blame on the front office because they didn’t put a successful team together. Over the off-season, they didn’t do a good job putting a team together that could win games.

In fact, they lost more players than they got. A ton of players went to different teams on free agency, and others were traded. Although they didn’t give up big name players, they gave up a lot of minor players that contributed a little bit.

These minor players account for the team’s depth, which is one of the thing’s that they have been struggling with.

There are a bunch of things that the team needs to get better at. However, that’s not the fault of the players. It’s the front office’s fault for not giving them the necessary tools to succeed.

This team is not going to start playing better until the front office creates a different team. They need new players, maybe a new coach (although I don’t think it would be smart), and an all around different formula for success.
