In the NHL, teams go through a ton of up and down moments. Parts of their game are great, and then they are terrible. It’s really impossible to rely on anything for an entire season.

That’s why the best teams are well rounded. The Penguins have a solid goalie and a solid offense, the Blackhawks have a solid have a solid goalie and a solid offense, the Flames just have a solid defense.

That’s where their trouble has started. When the defense slumps, the team slumps. They don’t have the offensive capability to pick up their lagging defense.

Recently, the Flames have been playing some terrible hockey. They have only won three of their last ten games and are currently on a three game losing streak.

Although it’s common to see losing streaks for every team throughout the season, these losing streaks are even worst when a crucial part of your team is in a slump.

Unfortunately, the only thing that the Calgary fans can do is wait. They have to wait until their defense finds its rhythm.

Now, all of that probably makes sense to you, except for the part about the offense not being able to pick up the slack.

The Flames have a few strong goal scorers, the biggest being Jarome Iginla. However, their offense is still ranked 15th in the NHL. Half of the teams that they play will have an offense better than them, and if the defense isn’t prepared, they won’t win.

Hopefully, this slump quits pretty quickly. In my opinion, they have too much talent on the team not to succeed. Kippy is a strong goalie and the defense is usually among the best in the league, just not now.

Eventually, we’ll see their play come back and they won’t sink as far in the standings.
